MRUs approach of diversity in education is what I was looking for

Tetiana Pashko, Master degree student from Ukraine, studying at Mykolas Romeris University’s (MRU) joint master programme European and International Business Law agreed to answer some questions about her studies in Lithuania:

Why did you choose to study in Lithuania?

Tetiana: I set myself a goal to study abroad, that is why I was looking for different opportunities during all the time of my Bachelor studies. I choose Lithuania because my friends, who had already graduated from one of the Lithuanian Universities, suggested me to obtain Master degree here. So, I decided to take this chance and make a challenge. Additionally, higher education institutions of Lithuania are actively involved as part of several international programs and agreements with Ukrainian universities, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Lithuania offer several scholarship opportunities to foreign students.

What surprised you the most when you started studying in Lithuania?

Tetiana: Lithuanian people – they are friendly and welcoming. Professors at MRU create a comfortable learning environment, they are very helpful, very understanding and patient. If you need a help in the library, librarians are always ready to assist you at any time and find the book which you need. Student support managers are always open to questions and ready to provide the necessary information and give advice.
I thought that it would be difficult for me to get used to a new environment, but thanks to the friendly atmosphere I have actually adapted to my new life as an international student without even noticing.

What opportunities do you have as a student at Mykolas Romeris University, which would be not available in your country?

Tetiana: MRU’s approach of diversity in education is what I was looking for all the time during my studies. A lot of new perspectives and concepts I have learned have been thanks to the courses which are offered at the MRU, but not available at my home institutions. Problems faced by lawyers require a global view, so, I am eager to learn ideas which are impossible to grasp in Ukraine. We also have a chance to communicate and participate in fruitful discussions with professors and practical lawyers from other countries, since it is a common practice here to invite them as lecturers. I was pleasantly surprised when one of the best American lawyers who were the guest professor at MRU invited us for a lunch and a friendly conversation.

On your opinion, how studies in Lithuania will influence your future?

Tetiana: Studies in Lithuania for me is more than just an academic environment, it is a personal growth, perspectives and a big challenge. No one ever really knows what the future holds, but one thing that I know for sure is that my studies in Lithuania will increase my competitiveness on the Ukrainian labour market and will positively distinguish me from the majority of young Ukrainian lawyers. Employers look for people who have studied abroad because they know that they have something to offer that others do not.

Maybe you would like to add something for people considering to study abroad?

Tetiana: Our life gets better by change, never say “no” to a life changing opportunity! I would really encourage you to come and study in Lithuania, because it is an outstanding experience, I never thought that I could growth so much as a person. The education system at MRU is absolutely amazing, here you have a chance to take really interesting courses, the people are welcoming and you have so many windows of opportunity to use.
